two things one something is not tuned right when i had my truck i was getting 25mpg with a heavy foot and bigger tires than what yours has two look into the vortex exhaust kit trust me on this one its louder at idle and acceleration than either any other kit they make for those trucks and trust me i shopped every kit that was offered for that truck nothing came even close to what i wanted until i went down to ultimate sound and security and spoke with ernie about exhaust kits and when i heard his start up that kit is louder than both the 40 and 44 series of flowmasters unless you removed the cats from the car running flowmasters then they are pretty close

U still down for some offroading? We need to make some plans!
I promise, 1 day in there and you will never buy another "looks" mod again.

Yeah I am, don't know if I can do it this year, still have alot of to do to the truck to get it ready for winter.
If we can't soon, definitely next spring.

oh wow thats good, what motor did you have? 5.4? any mods?

I believe the truck has a 3inch lift and a leveling kit, and has the gryphon/edge tuner and waiting on the custom tunes to install the banks intake for another 2 to 4 gain, but I doubt I can ever get a lifted 5.4 to run that good at mpg especially with a heavy foot.

Fill me in on all the details in here please, that would definitely be great if I can get more mpgs out of it.

As for exhaust, I dont want too loud, just want clean looking chrome dual exhausts coming out thru the back like the magnaflow set which I can eventually by for a good price.

Mustang was a graduation present because I was awarded over $150,000 in scholarships to various Colleges/Universities, and also graduated 2nd in my class. Even then i didn't expect to have a mustang I really wanted. It was red tagged from $30,000 to like $21,900 and it didnt have demo miles, just because it was a 05 left over in early 06. It was great and I do appreciate my parents buying it for me and I know how lucky I am because not everyone gets this chance, so I am not spoiled and my girl and anyone else who knows me, knows that I worked really hard for what I have.
My parents have always paid the insurance for the Mustang while I stay in college and keep a clean driving record, in the last year the insurance has drastically dropped down and I think its like $2400 or something for both the F150 and Mustang now which is great. Dad opted to pay for the insurance for it as long as I let him use it to carry stuff when he needs to and thats toatally not a problem, one of the reasons why I bought it.....tired of him trying to carry huge things in a ford windstar lol.

But yea I bought it with money I had saved up to get a daily driver, now I just need a job to keep paying for gas and stuff which thankfully keeps getting cheaper.

It was the 5.4 model and to make matters worse came with the optional 35 gallon fuel tank which needless to say would have costed an arm and leg and first born child in order to fill but luckily that wasn't the case only two things i changed out on the truck was a volant cold air intake and re-ran the exhaust system opting to go with the vortex kit but you have one more advantage then i did your only at a 3 inch lift i went full out going with a 6 inch lift and two inch leveling kit and finished it off with 35 inch open country tires which is why i said something isn't tuned right because you should be getting better mileage than me people over look the concept the better the motor breaths the better your gas mileage

Gears. Those tires are probably taller then stock by quite a bit. rear end gears will allow the trans to be in overdrive more and save you gas. For example I didnt do gears on the bronco and never got out of 3rd on the highway. hows that for bad gas mileage...i was gettin 9 or less.

We can offroad any time of year, snow adds to the fun...lol.

What do you have to do to it to get it winter worthy?

your best bet to get the most bang for your buck is go with the exhaust and cold air intake setup that i ran on my truck to start with no other combination comes close to it as far as making the engine breath the better and if you can spend the extra money or have it laying around i would also recommend gears thats one thing i never got around to doing on my truck

the truck came with 3.73s, same as I have in my mustang, don't think I want anything different now.

It averages at 14 to 19mpg running at 65 to 75mph and 10 to 12 running at 50 to 64mph

Is that weird? or is that because of the gears?

Sad part about the exhaust setup that I wanted. www.F150Store.com had the dual rear exit magnaflow last week and as soon as they offered 60% off their remaining sets to sell off and make room for parts for the new F150, I missed out......they were already gone.........sucks because I could've gotten a $500 setup for like $150 to $200 and installed it myself since the truck is lifted........I e-mailed them to find out if they'll bring anymore or where I could possibly get it from in the future without paying so much for it then.

I'm just concerned about the truck ready for winter, painting all the chips in tailgate and doing the bumpers and side steps with that herculiner liquid so its stronger for the salt and mud it gets hit by in the next several months and ready for Offroading when we go early next spring, Kevin. Smile

Hopefully, we'll have more F150 members by then and we can have an offroad cruise and then a barbecue or something haha

thats definitley weird. but was the stock gearing 3.73 or did someone buy it? What you need to do is do some math and calculate how the increased tire circumference changes the final drive ratio. then get the appropriate ring gear to make it the same as it was. even though mustang knowledge says 4.10 or 4.56 is crazy low gearing, on a truck wiht big tires, its totally normal.

The fuel economy problem is definitley cuzza the gears. its geared too high for those tires and its not able to get into OD when it shoud.

oh wow okay, yeah thats something I won't even be able to afford now, I believe the stock gears on that truck are those.
