 | Subject: 3.73 gears Questions Sun Jun 15, 2008 1:22 pm | |
| Well I am looking to get these becuase they are the best bang for the buck. I was curious 3.73 is a good size for my 95 gt 5 speed? Best place to by? (currently I shop via JEGS)? The most important being how hard is the install? My dad is a mechanic, but he is getting old so I don't want to put an insane amount of work on him.
Thanks |

| 3.73 is the best size especially if its daily driven or on the highway a decent amount of time. 3.73's would be a nice jump from the gears you have now, I believe yours are 3.27's so its about 2 gear steps up. My brother in law has 4.10s in his 06 GT and he's getting 14 mpg even with a bunch of highway thrown in. My brother has 3.73's in his 00 GT and he's getting about 17-18 mpg. If you don't drive on the highway and don't mind shifting every few seconds go 4.10, but you'll be about 3000RPMs at 60/65mph.
I bought them from buyfordracing.com because they were the cheapest ($165 after shipping). The other thing is that you'll need new shims, seals, and bearings esepcially since it's a 95, I got mine from Gears R Us.( an Ebay Power seller store) they were $95 for the Motive master install kit. You'll also need 3 quarts of gear oil, I got mine from Bruce's Speed Shop on Rt. 46 in Rockaway for $30.
The install is pretty difficult, even master mechanics with a lift and full shop say it will take between 4-6 hours. The best price I got for the install was $320 and the highest was about $450. About 7 out of 10 shops I called said $400 even. |

| when i had an auto as well as my old 5 speed and 4.10s i was at 80mph at 3k, and that seems to be consistent for everyone that ive seen. my MPG wasnt that bad at all.
for an NA car 4.10s all the way, wouldnt go with anything else
for any FI car over 450rwhp 3.73 would be best choice _________________ 1998 Mustang GT, Vortech T-Trim, Forged TEKSID 302 stroker, Stage 2 Ported Polished Heads, Comp XE274 Cams, Ported/Polished Bullitt Intake Manifold, TKO Trans, 03 Cobra IRS swap. Tuned by Kevin @ Wicked Motorsports

| street go with 3:55's like shelby uses. best ratio for all around driveing with a tad of raceing inculded.
price wise try randy's ring and pinion . http://www.ringpinion.com/,
YG F8.8-373 $209.68 http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=1916 High performance Yukon Ring & Pinion gear set for Ford 8.8" in a 3.73 ratio
YG F8.8-355 $209.68 http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=1913 High performance Yukon Ring & Pinion gear set for Ford 8.8" in a 3.55 ratio
ZG F8.8-355 $177.24 http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=1855 USA Standard Ring & Pinion gear set for Ford 8.8" in a 3.55 ratio. USA Standard Gear offers a lower cost alternative
ZG F8.8-373 $145.47 http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=1917 USA Standard Ring & Pinion gear set for Ford 8.8" in a 3.73 ratio. USA Standard Gear offers a lower cost alternative
YK F8.8 $93.35 http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=1963 Yukon Master Overhaul Kit for Ford 8.8" differential. This kit uses Timken Bearings and Races along with high quality seals and small parts. Included in this kit are carrier bearings and races, pinion bearings and races, pinion seal, complete shim kit, ring gear bolts, pinion nut, crush sleeve (if applicable), oil baffles and slingers (if applicable), Thread locking compound, marking compound with brush, and gasket. Yukon’s Master Overhaul kits are the most comprehensive and complete kits on the market. They do extensive research to ensure that every kit is specially tailored to your application. Includes super shims
hope this helps you as it did for me.i have installed hundreds of both manufactors gears with no problem. you will need a full install kit. witth a shim kit. it's not a drive way tech job. you need mic's and depth gauges to install the pinion depth correctly and set up the back lash. set it to the tight side as when it all seats you will gain some.
a big must do is seating the gears follow rany's direction and you will be OK.
good luck man _________________ Capt. Charlie G. US Coast Guard, 100 ton master near coastal charter/party boat license. 07 V6 deluxe ponie car, windveil blue with gold stripes, GT dress up kit.,

| | Purple drank, the $320 install was at a place in Great Meadows NJ. I don't know where you live but it was an hour away from me but close to where my dad is. Clifton transmission charges $400 even, Van Houten Auto in Clifton charges $400 even, and I think IMP Motorsports in clifton was $350 or $400. Don't pay anyone $500 thats a rip. Aamco wanted to charge $500 when I was looking and its ridiculous. Pay no more than $400. If you tell me where you live I'll see if i had any price quotes from people closer to you. |

| | I install ring and pinion's at work and can do labor for around $300 to $350 and if you want the posi rear rebuilt just add another $65 and bring the rebuild kit as well. We also build engines and transmissions from stock to full race and do regular repairs as well. We also work on motorcycles and will be re-filling nitrous. We are also a Vortech superchargers dealer! The shop is located in Linden NJ |

| Sounds Great, I was thinking 4:10's again you may be able to suggest if I shoud get different ones. I understand that highway driving I would have to keep here at 55 mph to keep her from burning gas to fast when cruisin (once and a while I'll be tempted to romp on her). I just love the fact of chirping the tires on 1st, 2nd and 3rd when criusin in town. Will replacing the seals and bearing for the axle cost more or those the price include it?

I can include the axle seals and bearings for $350. 4.10's are fine. Thats what I run in my car. I used to have 4.56 but was too much for the street. |

| 4.10's FTW.
You won't burn gas too fast unless you are doing 80+ everywhere. I get 24mpg highway with my 4.10s.
However, if you were concerned about gas mileage, you shouldn't have gotten a mustang. But thats just my humble opinion.
Cams, gears, and blowers are cooler than good gas mileage. |
